Professor Miao Linchang's research team published their research in

Recently, Professor Miao Lin chang's research group in the School of Transportation at Southeast University has made significant progress in the use of biomineralization technology to control sand-dust storms. The relevant research results were published online in the prestigious international academic journal Advanced Science under the title Biomineralization for Reducing and Controlling Sand-Dust Storms. Professor Miao Linchang is the first author and sole corresponding author, and Southeast University is the only signed unit.

Sand and dust weather have become serious environmental disasters worldwide. Developing green and efficient desert sand fixation technology is a major challenge for preventing sand and dust weather. Biomin eralization sand fixation technology is a new type of sand fixation method developed in recent years, which generates calcium carbonate with binding and filling properties through biochemical reactions and is used to reinforce sand and soil. This article successfully applied biomineralization technology to sand control engineering on the Ulan Highway in the Tengger Desert. Through the measurement of the water retention capacity of the soil in the experimental area, the superiority of bi omin eralization sand fixation was verified. Meanwhile, molecular dynamics were used to calculate, verify and analyze the role of biomineralization sand fixation technology in preventing sand and dust storms. This work, combined with the previous achievements of the research group, marks the efficiency of green and environmentally friendly biomineral ization technology in achieving desert sand fixation and provides a new idea for reducing sand and dust hazards in desert areas.

Professor Miao's reasearch project integrates multiple disciplines such as biology, chemistry, civil engineering, and environmental science. The research team started from scratch and spent ten years building the biogeotechnical laboratory, and gradually conducted a series of indoor experiments and theoretical research based on this. Led by Professor Miao Linchang, the research team over came extreme harsh conditions and environments such as wind and sand, high temperature, and drought, as well as other uncertain factors. They completed field experiments and validations in desert areas such as Ningxia and Xinjiang, and finally achieved the expected results. After long-term persistence and efforts, the research team gradually revealed the complex mechanism and application potential of biomineralization, and successfully applied it to sand-fix ation and protection engineering in desert areas, opening up new directions for innovative development in sand-fix ation and protection. Their research results have also opened up new research directions for reducing and controlling sand-dust hazards and improving the ecological environment in desert areas.
