At the end of August, on the shores of Jiulonghu, the students was stepping into the ivory tower with hope.
In the evening of August 25th, the 2018 undergraduates opening ceremony of School of Transportation was held at Jiao Tingbiao Stadium in the Jiulonghu Campus. Professor Liu Pan, dean of School of Transportation, Professor Cheng Jianchuan, Vice Dean of School of Transportation, Professor Chen Jun, Vice Dean of School of Transportation, Professor Huang Xiaoming, Professor Ma Tao, Associate Professor Geng Yanfen, Associate Professor Tang Junyou, Associate Professor Ding Jianwen, Associate Professor Yu Xianwen, Professor Wang Wenwei, Assistant Professor Zhou Bojian, as well as other leaders, teachers of all subjects, head teachers and tutors of all grades attended the ceremony, which was hosted by Chen Yi, Deputy Secretary and Vice Dean of School of Transportation.
First of all, Dean Liu Pan introduced the general situation of School of Transportation to 2018 undergraduates. A number of contents including the history of Southeast University, the development history of School of Transportation, sub-disciplines, the faculty, scientific research projects, personnel training and international exchange and cooperation projects were introduced in detail.
When talking about personnel training of School of Transportation, Dean Liu Pan proposed to train leading talents, encourage students to self-discipline with the standards of leading talents, and align with the outstanding alumni of Southeast University.
At the end of the lecture, Dean Liu Pan gave students four messages. The first is to study hard and learn the true skills. Studying for examinations is not enough. Diligent thinking, practicing and making conclusion is needed. The second is to learn to self-regulate and make life plans early. The third is to read more books and read excellent books. College life is the gold stage of reading, so trying to reading as many books as possible is needed. The forth is to work hard to improve the realm of life. As students of School of Transportation, we can't limit our visions to hunting jobs, but to build a lofty ambition. Striving for perfection.To establish a mind for heaven-and-earth; to establish the way for the people of today; to carry on the lost learning of the rages of yesterday; and to find the Great Peace for ten thousand generations.
Subsequently, Vice Dean Chen Jun introduced sub-disciplines of undergraduate, the characteristics of each sub-discipline, employment information and the division of disciplines to students. Vice Dean Chen Jun hoped that students could learn to behave, learn skills, learn to study and learn to get along. Transforming passive learning into initiative thinking to grasp future in our own hands is also significant.
Deputy Secretary Chen Yi introduced the information of Mao Yisheng Class including its selection, educating system, training architecture and achievements since its establishing in 2007. A brief introduction of student affairs was also given to make students feel the faculty culture from abundant student activities. Before grade conference, Deputy Secretary Chen Yi proposed that freshmen need to adapt to college life as soon as possible and develop other skills in addition to learning.
At last, Wu Zenghan, the tutor of 2018 undergraduate, held the first grade conference of freshmen. Teacher Wu stressed the importance of obeying time requirement and disciplines. And then introduced the distribution of campus buildings and recent affairs such as military training and put forward the requirements and expectations in terms of study and life. Teacher Wu hoped students to pay attention to study and try to be the best of themselves.
The ceremony ended with the delighted atmosphere and continuous applause. For 2018 undergraduates, the ceremony is the first course they attended and a new start of their lives. After the introduction of leaders and teachers, freshmen had a deeper comprehension and treasured the opportunity of meeting School of Transportation. Hoping that they can pass the passion and continue the glory of the School of Transportation.
From August 26 to September 15, all the 2018 freshmen will be taking part in the military training for the preparation for the new semester as the school's tradition. Let's see their efforts and expect what they would achieve in their new stage of life.
