Dr. Jianxiong Yu: “An Overview of Transportation Industry in the United States”

23 August 2018, Jianxiong Yu of Coastal Engineering, Inc. was invited to visit the School of Transportation, Southeast University and delivered a presentation titled “An Overview of Transportation Industry in the United States”. Some faculty and graduate students from Department of Highway and Railway Engineering as well as local professionals attended this exchange activity.

Based on his strong academic background and rich experience ondesign, consultingand managementin both China and theUnited States, Dr. Yu depicted an overall scene of the transportation Industry in the United States, detailing fromProject Development & Management Procedure, Project Funding and Management, the qualification requirements of design, construction and management professionals, the relationship between consultant, government and college, etc.. Warm discussion was focused on the comparison of transportation industry in China and the United States after Dr. Yu’s presentation.


Brief Introduction of Dr. Jianxiong Yu:

Jianxiong Yu, Ph.D., PE, PMP

Jianxiong has a Ph.D. in Transportation Engineering and holds a PE license in California. He has over 20 years of experience in the field of transportation engineering industry, which includes 8 years of highway and bridge design and design project management, 5 years of pavement management research, and 12 years of Caltrans project management experience as an assistant project manager, project manager, and project management specialist. As a project manager, Jianxiong has been responsible for managing more than 30 Streamlined Oversight Projects for Caltrans district 8 and served as the District single point of contact with the local agencies and private entities. Jianxiong performed daily project management tasks such as initiating projects, preparing work plans, determining schedules, coordinating with the clients, holding PDT Meetings, to ensure that all projects can be delivered on time within budget and maintaining the scope of work. Prior to 2005, he served as a research assistant at the University of Toledo in Ohio, where he obtained both his Master’s and Doctorate degrees.
