Second International Workshop on Multimodal Transportation (IWMT) is successfully held in the Southeast University

The Second International Workshop on Multimodal Transportation (IWMT) is held at the Jiulonghu Campus, Southeast University by the School of Transportation, Southeast University and the Jiangsu Universities Collaborative Innovation Center of Modern Urban Transportation Technology, Southeast University from June 23rd to June 24th. About one hundred renowned scholars from Canada, Singapore, Australia, Hong Kong, and over ten prominent universities in mainland, China attended the workshop.

The workshop focuses on the theme of multimodal transportation models and transportation big data analysis, and discusses problems and latest researches laid in the efficiency improvement of multimodal transportation systems. IWMT aims to construct an open and free communication platform of transportation science, in order to facilitate the discussion on multimodal travel behaviors, planning of multimodal transportation systems, and management of multimodal travel demands. IWMT provides constructive suggestions for the development of Chinese transportation industry and promotes the progress of transportation engineering.

The workshop includes opening session, keynote session, and parallel session. The opening session is handled by Prof. Zhiyuan Liu. Prof. Wei Wang first delivered the welcome speech. Prof. Pan Liu reviewed the history and achievements of the School of Transportation. The chair of IWMT, Prof. Qiang Meng, reviewed the idea and purpose of IWMT, and presented a brief introduction to the Second International Workshop on Multimodal Transportation.

In the keynote session, nine renowned domestic and foreign experts exhibited their latest researches and conducted wide-ranging academic discussions. In the first keynote speech, Prof. Haijun Huang introduced the extensions of multimode to bottleneck and corridor models considering mode choice in the multimode context. Prof. Hong K. Lo introduced the mixed bus fleet scheduling under range uncertainty. Prof. Wei Wang analyzed the development of intelligent transportation systems and pointed out the necessity of constructing transportation simulation systems conforming to Chinese conditions.

Two parallel sessions are simultaneously held. Parallel Session A is presided by Prof.Zhi-Chun Li. Prof. Xiaolei Guo, Prof. Zhijia Tan, Prof. Tieqiao Tang, Prof. Xiaolei Wang, Prof. Zhiwei (David) Wang and Prof. Peng Zhang delivered presentations in Parallel Session A.

Parallel Session B is presided by Prof. Xiaoning Zhang. Prof. Renyong Guo, Prof. Yang Liu, Prof. Jiangcheng Long, Prof. Feng Xiao, Prof. Tony Sze and Prof. Zhiyuan Liu delivered presentations in Parallel Session B.

Faculties and students from Tsinghua University, Nanjing University, Harbin Institute of Technology, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Southwest Jiaotong University, HeFei University of Technology, Shanghai Maritime Univeristy, Wuhan University of Finance and finance, Guizhou University of Finance and finance, and Inner Mongolia University of Finance and Economics also attended the workshop.

On June 24th, the experts visited the Transportation Research Laboratory, the Civil Engineering Experimental Platform of Southeast University and the new office building of School of Civil Engineering and School of Transportation. Afterwards, the experts visited Nanjing Niushou Mountain Cultural Tourism Zone.

The workshop improves the academic communication between the discipline of transportation engineering and international experts and scholars on transportation. It also provides opportunities for faculties and students from the School of Transportation to catch up with transportation research frontiers and learn from domestic and foreign experts. The workshop contributes to promote developments of the transportation engineering discipline and generates positive social and academic effects.
